So Who’s Behind the Fairfax Recall?
Edward Escobar
Doesn’t live in Fairfax, or even Marin County. Advising the Recall effort. Describes himself as a “seasoned activist, organizer & prolific political operative.” Most recently, proud to ask Trump to bring federal troops to Oakland. Before that, he helped lead the recalls of both Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price. Now he’s got his sights set on getting two more women out of office: Fairfax town councilors Lisel Blash and Stephanie Hellman.

What’s a secretive San Rafael-based group doing pumping at least $5,000 into the recall effort? Check out the latest piece of mail you probably received about our “home-grown” recall. It was paid for my Marin Residents PAC (Political Action Committee). What’s in it for them? Must be something. They’re pouring time and money into kicking Stephanie and Lisel off the council.
ELECTION TRUST AND INTEGRITY?
Those words are on every recall sign - and they might look familiar. That’s because they’re the exact words Donald Trump and the MAGA movement use over and over again to cast doubt on American elections. That’s no coincidence. There’s actually a national right-wing organization devoted to casting doubt on our democracy - founded by…wait for it… Karl Rove. Yup. You might be old enough to remember this guy. He was George W. Bush’s senior strategist. The guy who brought us the Iraq War, torture, assaults on civil liberties, and so much more. He’s the co-founder of a national group that fights local political battles. The name of his group? Restore Integrity and Trust in Elections (RITE). Same words that appear on Recall signs in Fairfax.
